Sprint Relay Announces Service Enhancements in the State of Vermont

Overland Park, Kan., Jan. 11, 2015 – Sprint Relay is pleased to announce several enhancements to its assistive communications services for residents who are deaf, have hearing loss or a speech disability the State of Vermont, effective Jan. 9, 2015. These advancements come after Sprint Relay, which has been providing relay services in Vermont since 2002, was awarded its fourth contract renewal last year.

“We are thrilled to continue working with Sprint to provide Relay services within the State of Vermont,” said Sunni Erikson, Vermont Contract Administrator. “I am confident that Sprint’s Relay services are of the highest quality, providing the best communication access to those in our state that need support in telecommunication.” 

Among the new service offerings is a dedicated Customer Service line (866-931-9028) for Vermont users, which provides quick and easy access to Sprint Relay customer service agents for any questions, concerns or support needed.

Sprint Relay is pleased to introduce the availability of Spanish to English translation, which allows Spanish speaking relay users to call and connect using the toll-free number 877-253-7244. Once connected, Spanish speakers can type and speak in their preferred language, and the Operator will be able to translate into English. 

There are several new options available for those who use Speech to Speech (STS), including Video Assisted STS, which allows the agent and user to interact with one another through a video connection. By incorporating video, the Operator can see the caller’s mouth movements, facial expressions and gestures, and possibly cue cards or alpha cards. This enables the STS agent to better understand and re-voice for the caller, which can improve overall call quality. 

Relay users often utilize the number “7-1-1” to connect to a Relay agent in their state. The 7-1-1 feature has been enhanced to create ease of access for STS and Spanish-speaking users. Now, a Vermont Relay customer will be able to register a customer profile so that when they dial 7-1-1 their call is automatically routed to the correct agent for the call type and skills requested.
